Raw propolis, straight from the hive.

Propolis is the resin honeybees gather from trees and plants and use to seal, strengthen and protect their hive — a mix of plant resins, beeswax and the bees’ own compounds, sometimes called “bee glue.” We collect ours on purpose-made propolis plates set into the hive, then freeze them so the propolis turns brittle and lifts away clean — harvested raw, with nothing added and nothing processed out.

A natural bee product with a long history of traditional use, our propolis comes only from our own rescued, well-kept colonies.

Australian propolis has drawn scientific interest: researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast, in work part-funded by Capilano’s owners, have catalogued the chemical diversity of high-grade Australian propolis, and laboratory studies have reported antibacterial activity in Australian propolis extracts. It’s an emerging area, and researchers note there’s more work to do — but it’s part of why this long-traditional bee product is drawing fresh attention.

Raw vs processed: most propolis you’ll find is sold as a tincture, spray or capsule — extracted and processed into another form. Ours is the raw resin itself, exactly as it comes out of the hive, frozen and cleaned but never altered. It’s the propolis in its original state, for people who want it that way.
